Fascinating Fanart: Penny Dreadful

Image
Are you guys watching Penny Dreadful?  I was a bit wary at first, but it really is like a darker version of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.  It's gothic and creepy, but not so creepy that you can't watch it alone at night.  So, you know, perfect.  Oh, and there's a bunch of creatures, too.  I love creatures. ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ Zombie comedies are becoming a more popular thing, so I thought I'd share some of my favorites from this fascinating sub-genre.  I also decided to list them from oldest to newest.  ::shrugs::   I have a really hard time comparing things that are nuanced.  Maybe we'll get some more good ones soon! ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖ ☣ ⌖

Fascinating Fanart: Jurassic Park

Image
In light of the new movie, Jurassic World  (2015), I decided to scour the internet for whatever cool Jurassic Park artwork I could find.  If you're like me, the nostalgia of the first movie has you at least curious about the new one.  I haven't seen it yet, but some people have-and they painted pictures about it!  Don't worry, there's nothing here you haven't seen in the trailer.  Be sure to read through to the end if you want to see the best Jeff Goldblum piece ever! Fascinating Fanart: Mara Jade

Image
Mara Jade's first appearance in the Star Wars Universe was in a novel called " Heir to the Empire " that came out in 1991.  She started out as an "Emperor's Hand," which basically meant she ran around killing folk for Palpatine.  Later, Palpatine's all like "You should totes kill Luke and stuff."  So, she struggles with that for a bit, but ultimately decides to marry Luke instead.  Yay, redemption!  So, here's some excellent art honoring my favorite undercover bad/good girl of the Star Wars Universe. Mara Jade Skywalker by wraithdt Mara Jade Skywalker to Luke Skywalker: "I'm so glad I found you and didn't kill you."

Actor Evolution: James Callis

Image
◩ ◪ ⬔ ⬕ ◩ ◪ ⬔ ⬕ ◩ ◪ ⬔ ⬕ You know how you'll see an actor and he looks just so familiar but you just can't remember where you've seen him (or her) before?  That's why I'm doing these.  First up is James Callis. He primarily pops up on TV shows for an episode or two, or he'll get a bit part in a movie.  Every now and again he'll get  a semi-lead role.  He seems to be the go-to for a smarmy or unsavory nefarious villain.  I think he's pretty good at it.   Let's see if you know him. ◩ ◪ ⬔ ⬕ ◩ ◪ ⬔ ⬕ ◩ ◪ ⬔ ⬕

Fascinating Fanart: White Walkers

Image
...from Game of Thrones or A Song of Ice and Fire, right??  So, here's a quick rundown:  White walkers or 'Others,' as they're called in the books, are basically scary ice people.  They are not zombies, but sentient beings who can only be killed with dragon glass (obsidian) or dragon steel (Valyrian steel).  Aside from being scary and mysterious, they are also powerful necromancers and anyone who falls in battle with them will rise up again as a 'Wight.'  These are essentially zombies and they look just like they did when they died, except now they share the glowing blue eyes of their makers, the White Walkers. Art Admiration: Medusa

Image
Why are people so fascinated with Medusa?  She can be painted in so many lights (You see what I did there).  Is she this great villainess out to destroy with a single glance, or a tragic mystery?  The beauty of art is that she can be both: Medusa by Alicechan
