Fascinating Fanart: Jason Todd

Image
Jason Todd was raised by the streets of Gotham.  One day, Batman catches this kid trying to steal the tires off the Batmobile and decides to take him in.  He becomes the second Robin.  After a time, he is killed by the Joker (interestingly, fans got the chance to vote as to wether or not he would die, though some still say the vote was rigged). Just when people had given up on a magical resurrection, he was magically resurrected with a strong appetite for vengeance against Batman, who did not kill the Joker for killing him.  Thus, the Red Hood was born.  He's also used the titles Jaybird and Red Robin, but he always goes back to his Red Hood persona.  He's evolved to become a member of the Batfamily again, being more of an anti-hero than a villain.  I love everything about his tragic tale. Art Admiration: Pirates

I started to add lady pirates, but there were far too many good ones to fit into one post.  So you can have that to look forward to.  Who doesn't love a good pirate tale?  It's true that real pirates were scary assholes who did a lot of terrible things, but when we romanticize them (like we do with vampires?) they are crazy awesome!  Have some pirate art! Fascinating Fanart: Beetlejuice

Image
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, BEATLEJUICE!  Whether you've seen Michael Keaton's wacky 1988 film or you grew up on the spin-off cartoon in the 90's, this Burton masterpiece will forever stick with you.  I know it stuck with me.  Here's some art as strange and unusual as its subject: Strange and Unusual by Kelly McKernan

My Art: Just Some Doodles

Image
I promised something special, so here are some of the things I've been working on.  Yep, I do the art things.  Maybe one day I'll finish a piece.  Maybe not.  Who knows?!? I'm just kind of calling this one "Hair Girl" for now.  I dunno.  Boredom?

Fascinating Fanart: Stephanie Brown

Image
Don't know who she is?  Here's a quick break down:  Her father's a villain so she decided to fight crime as the Spoiler (far left) to "spoil" his evil plans.  This got Batman's attention, so she became the new Robin (far right).  She was then fired from being Robin, went back to being the Spoiler and promptly died.  Turns out, she faked it; so she ends up taking up the mantle (cowl?) of Batgirl (middle).  After the launch of DC's New52, she was reintroduced as the Spoiler once again.  Whew!  So, to sum it up, one girl, 3 personas, lots and lots ass-kicking. Fascinating Fanart: Captain Malcolm Reynolds of Firefly

Image
"I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you."  Who doesn't love a big damn hero?  Every character from Firefly was amazing, but we're going to focus on Captain Mal this week.  He does the job, then he gets paid and he can't die because he's so...very...pretty. ◐ ◑ ◒ ◓ ◐ ◑ ◒ ◓ ◐ ◑ ◒ ◓ Leslie Bibb is best known for her comedic acting and sharp wit.  She's got a very expressive face which I think makes her fun to watch.  Let's see if you agree.  ◐ ◑ ◒ ◓ ◐ ◑ ◒ ◓ ◐ ◑ ◒ ◓

Art Admiration: Owls

Image
People have always been fascinated with owls.  Did you know they have binocular vision?  In many cultures they've been seen as harbingers of death, bad luck or just a bad omen of things to come.  They've also been associated with the dark arts and sorcery.  Owls are also commonly known to represent wisdom.  This is possibly why a group of them is called a 'parliament.'  It shouldn't come as a surprise that they've become so popular in art.
