Book Review: Robin: Year One by Chuck Dixon

Robin: Year One by Chuck Dixon My rating: 5 of 5 stars "Somebody's gotta help him. Might as well be me ." I thought this would be pretty good based on other reviews I've read, as well as the fact that Dick Grayson is still my favorite Robin; it surpassed my expectations. I feel like it really holds up. There weren't any outdated references that pulled me out of the story, which is always a plus. This is the tale of how Robin became Robin. Not the one where his parents were killed and Bruce Wayne took him in, the one where he proves himself and gets accepted. The most interesting part is how everyone notices he's just a little boy. That's addressed. Repeatedly. Villains such as Two-Face, the Mad Hatter, Blockbuster, Mr. Freeze and Killer Moth were featured. The stand-out role was definitely Alfred, though. I had a smile on my face when I finished this and I can see myself reading it again in the future. Good standalone Dick Grayson story. :) View all my...

Fascinating Fanart: Jason Todd

Jason Todd was raised by the streets of Gotham.  One day, Batman catches this kid trying to steal the tires off the Batmobile and decides to take him in.  He becomes the second Robin.  After a time, he is killed by the Joker (interestingly, fans got the chance to vote as to wether or not he would die, though some still say the vote was rigged). Just when people had given up on a magical resurrection, he was magically resurrected with a strong appetite for vengeance against Batman, who did not kill the Joker for killing him.  Thus, the Red Hood was born.  He's also used the titles Jaybird and Red Robin, but he always goes back to his Red Hood persona.  He's evolved to become a member of the Batfamily again, being more of an anti-hero than a villain.  I love everything about his tragic tale. Fascinating Fanart: Stephanie Brown

Don't know who she is?  Here's a quick break down:  Her father's a villain so she decided to fight crime as the Spoiler (far left) to "spoil" his evil plans.  This got Batman's attention, so she became the new Robin (far right).  She was then fired from being Robin, went back to being the Spoiler and promptly died.  Turns out, she faked it; so she ends up taking up the mantle (cowl?) of Batgirl (middle).  After the launch of DC's New52, she was reintroduced as the Spoiler once again.  Whew!  So, to sum it up, one girl, 3 personas, lots and lots ass-kicking.
