Fascinating Fanart: Gambit

Image
You know what I love about Gambit?  Everything.  I think it's probably his attitude that draws people in though.  He's consistently having a blast or at least finding whatever humor there may be to find in any situation.  Got that constant laid-back thing going.  Also, how many comic characters have a thick Cajun accent?  How many grew up in a thieves' guild?  He's got that good guy/bad guy thing that Catwoman has.  Maybe he'll help you out, but if it doesn't benefit him, maybe he won't. Did I mention that he can make things explode with his mind?  Okay, so he transfers energy into inanimate objects and then they explode, but still .  His name is Remy Lebeau, a lovely New Orleans-style name; his code name is Gambit, which is perfect for a master thief and his nickname is the Ragin' Cajun.  Oh, yeah, and he totally landed Rogue.  So, you know...yay, Gambit! Fascinating Fanart: Suicide Squad Harley Quinn!

Image
Harley's first origin introduced her as an intern at Arkham Asylum in the Batman universe.  She met the Joker, became somewhat obsessed with him and promptly went bat-shit crazy.  She turns him lose and becomes his bubbly-yet-manic sidekick/true-love/punching-bag.  Based on the trailers, I know we'll get some form of this story for her live-action incarnation in Suicide Squad .  You can find the previous live-action versions of her on the 2002 one-season-wonder " Birds of Prey ," where Mia Sara took up the role as the show's main villain, and a small cameo in the Suicide Squad episode of " Arrow ."  This post, though, is celebrating the newest version, whom I know we've already decided to love, am I right?! Fascinating Fanart: Harley Quinn!

Image
This universally  adored DC villainess/anti-heroine was not born in comics, but in a 90's cartoon: Batman: The Animated Series .  She was written as a supporting character for the Joker, but because of her popularity, they continued writing reasons for her to show up.  Thus, a fan-following was born.  She appeared in the spin-off comics for the cartoon, then in comics of her own and before you knew it, it was like she'd been a part of the universe all along.  Like most Batman characters, she's had so much character development over the years and even a few new origin stories.  You can now find her in DC comics, games and most cartoons.  Does this sound like a love letter?  I damn-well hope so. Fascinating Fanart: Mad Love

Image
Can you feel it?  It will be time for the Suicide Squad movie soon.  I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that I've been waiting to see a live-action version of Harley since her debut in the 90s.  Her relationship with the Joker is one of the most twisted and complex in comics.  The fact that they're both homicidal maniacs only sets them apart from everyone else.  Harley's evolved into a different (not always, but sometimes) character since then.  This is just a celebration of the beginning of her story... Fascinating Fanart: The Princess Bride

Image
"Twoo wuv...will fowow you foweva."...Tell me you've seen The Princess Bride .  If that's not something you've done in your life, you need to fix that ASAP.  Not only is this a timeless movie...I mean, the narrator and the grandson are a bit dated, but they're hilarious, so who cares?  It's also everything you want in a movie: adventure, murder, kidnapping, swashbuckling, true love, rats of unusual size, I mean... come ON .  Add that to the consistent self-aware humor throughout the flick and you've got something unlike anything else.  Maybe that's why this cult classic is still so popular.  Enjoy this wonderful fan art and have fun stormin' the castle! by Jeff Delgado

Fasacinating Fanart: Bebop and Rocksteady

Image
Can you believe we live in a time where a giant mutant rhino and warthog make it to the big screen?  I mean, right??  The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are my first real fandom, I think.  When I was a tiny girl and my friends were all 'princesses', I was pretending to be a Ninja Turtle.  It's so exciting to finally see Bebop and Rocksteady get the limelight they so clearly deserve.  What's next, guys?  I keep thinking it should really be Thundercats, but that's just me... Fascinating Fanart: Psylocke

Image
Yay!  Psylocke!  I've been waiting for sooooo long for her to be in an X-Men movie!  And no, that five-second role in 'Last Stand' does not count.  Not by a mile.  Not only is she finally in her getup-which looks like she stepped out of the comics (see below), but we finally get to see her use a sword and Psi-Bolts (you'll see...)!  You'll notice in the fan art that sometimes she looks Asian and sometimes she doesn't.  That's because during her comic run, she had two bodies-one British and one Asian because crazy shit happens in comics!  They could dedicate an entire movie to her and we still wouldn't scratch the surface of her story so far.  So here she is in (most of) her comic forms: Psylocke by pushfighter

Fascinating Fanart: 80s Storm!

Image
This is my favorite incarnation of Storm.  I love that whole covered-in-white-capes thing she did in the 90's, but not like the mohawk.  There's just something more daring about a mohawk.  Not everyone has the guts (or the face-shape) to pull it off.  When Chris Claremont turned in his design for this version of the character in the 80's, it was meant as a joke-at first.  People loved it and her character was going through some changes, so it stuck.  I think it's the most bold and memorable look on any of the X-Men yet.  I have some other favorites that we'll get to one day. Fascinating Fanart: The Evil Queen

Image
The evil queen was the first nemesis a for a lot of girls.  We grew up watching that jealous stepmother terrorize Snow White until she was forced to run away.  If you look at it another way, though, she's the only strong chick in the film.  Sure, she's out of her mind, but she's confident about it.  Snow's pretty much never confident and always relying on others.  Queen Grimhilde, though, she knows exactly what it is she wants and she doesn't even worry that she might not get it.  We all know how that all ends up, but, honestly, which one did you actually identify with? Fascinating Fanart: Daredevil

Image
The latest (second) season of Daredevil on Netflix kind of overshadowed the show's namesake.  Or at least, that's what everyone keeps telling me.  It still read as a Devil of Hell's Kitchen story to me.  In any case, I thought we'd bring the spotlight firmly to him this week.  So as we don't all forget his badass-ness and such.  So, here's some blind lawyer art...kind of: Daredevil by erlanarya

Fascinating Fanart: Elektra

Image
Have you caught up on Netflix's Daredevil ?  Did you like their version of Elektra? It was very difficult it was to find non-comic covers that didn't primarily feature Elektra's ass and/or nipples.  Don't get me wrong, she's got the goods, but she's also a crazy ninja assassin, so I kind of wanted to feature that instead of just how revealing her costume is.  With the exception of 2 or 3 really well-done compositions, I think the mission was accomplished! Fascinating Fanart: Daenerys Targaryen

Image
Daenerys Targaryen is one of the main characters on Game of Thrones or in the book series, A Song of Ica and Fire .  She's one of those truly layered, full-circle characters.  Is this why people love her so much?  I can tell you why I do.  She starts off as nothing but a bargaining chip for advancing the power of men and evolves into this badass warrior queen.  That whole journey aside, she's constantly learning and adapting and isn't that the type of character you naturally root for?  She falls damn-near constantly but absolutely refuses to bow down or give up.  So call her what you want: Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Stormborn or The Queen Across the Sea.  She's every single one of them.  Oh, yeah... she also has her own dragons . Fascinating Fanart: Wonder Woman!

Image
Guys, can you believe we finally have a live-action Wonder Woman on film?!  It's about damn time!  This week we're focusing on the most sought-after Amazonian Warrior in DC comics.  Emphasis on the 'warrior.' ::wink:: Wonder Woman by Vylla Art

Fascinating Fanart: DC Trinity

Image
The big three.  The cornerstone of the Justice League.  My favorite stories featuring the Trinity are the ones where Diana is a straight-up warrior...it makes for a more interesting dynamic.  Believe it or not, it was hard as hell to find this many great pieces of art that weren't already comic book cover.  Luckily, there are people out there that just can't help themselves....yay, them! Fascinating Fanart: The Labyrinth

Image
I meant to do something else this week, but I just ended up in this hole of Labyrinth fanart.  Believe it or not, this isn't the first time.  I decided to roll with it and here we are.  I hope you enjoy these amazing artists' appreciation for this timeless (yeah, well...kind of) masochistic romance.  I sure the hell do. Ode to Labyrinth by Vandrell

Fascinating Fanart: Deadpool!

Image
For whatever reason, Deadpool has fans across all the demographics.  The art below will back me up on that.  Here's a little backstory on Wade Wilson:  He was originally created as a spoof of the DC character Deathstroke   (aka Slade Wilson-eh...eh?).  Although his trademark smart mouth didn't show up until a little after his creation, he quickly evolved into something more than a parody and gained a ton of fans in the process.  I hope his movie is genius and we get 12 more.  Chimichangas, bitches! --Overhanging-- by wyv1

Fascinating Fanart: Zoolander

Image
Zoolander 2...I can't believe they finally did it.  Since it's still about a week out, I thought we'd commemorate our favorite ridiculously good-looking male models!  There's a movie somewhere that says inviting a girl over to watch Zoolander is pretty much a sure thing.  I could totally see that.  Shame I couldn't find a David Duchovny one.  I tried, y'all.  I really did. Fascinating Fanart: BBC's Sherlock

Image
Sherlock came back, guys.  Whether or not you're a Cumberbabe (his lady fans used to be called Cumberbitches, but they've since rebranded), this show is downright remarkable.  I say that as a fan of Elementary , as well.  Shocking...I know.  Since his creation, Sherlock Holmes is one of the most adapted characters in literature and if the two shows currently on air are anything to measure by, I hope this trend continues for a good, long while. Fascinating Fanart: Hawkman and Hawkgirl!

Image
The new spin-off show Legends of Tomorrow has just begun!  Other than seeing Rory from Doctor Who again, I'm most excited to see live-action Hawkman and Hawkgirl!  We've gotten a taste of them in the Flash/Arrow crossover, and Hawkman had a decent representation on Smallville a while back, but they're part of the main crew in this show and that is unprecedented.  If you're as thrilled as I am, maybe you'll also enjoy some of this fantastic art I found: Hawkman and Hawkgirl by Yin Yuming

Fascinating Fanart: Downton Abbey!

Image
I can't believe Downton is finally drawing to an end!  Not just "Oh, the season's over" but forever.   I've never been able to figure out exactly what it is that makes Downton Abbey such a glorious story to be swept up in, but it IS .  The setting, the pace, the characters.  You almost feel like a voyeur  that isn't supposed to see these people's lives.  It's that good, folks.  So, in honor of six wonderful years of Downton, here's some fan art: Downton Abbey by Loish
