Book Review: Green Lantern Corps: Recharge by Geoff Johns

Image
Green Lantern Corps: Recharge by Geoff Johns My rating: 4 of 5 stars "Good work, Poozers. Ya deserve a donut for that." Ah, man. So I was reading through the Geoff Johns Green Lantern run, right? That story revolves mostly around Hal Jordan and a bit of the Corps. For whatever reason, I kind of overlooked this series which ran around the same time. My goal is to read both up to the Blackest Night/Brightest Day storyline. I'm so glad I went back to these. I just love space stories where the majority of characters are mostly aliens that look weird and awesome. Kilowog and Guy continue to be favorites. I also really like Isamot (the dinosaur-looking dude) . In all seriousness, though, why does it always have to be giant spiders??? Can't wait to carry on the adventures of the GL Corps and watch them rebuild! View all my reviews

Book Review: Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War

Image
Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War by Geoff Johns My rating: 4 of 5 stars "There is a spectrum of power unseen in the universe made up of sentient thoughts and feelings. Made brighter or darker depending on the universal emotional state of intelligent life. Today, the universe feels fear." This book had me going through the emotions. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did, it became un-put-down-able. You know how I love well-written characters, right? Well, Geoff Johns is awesome at that. There's this one panel where the Green Lanterns from Earth (Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Guy Gardner) are in a legitimate battle and they're all just having this bro-centric conversation on the side that should be completely out of place, but it isn't. It's...perfect. There were several times throughout this story that the world dropped out from under me because I couldn't believe what just happened. Once with Parallax and twice with Ganthet...

Book Review: Green Lantern Vol. 3: Wanted - Hal Jordan

Image
Green Lantern Vol. 3: Wanted - Hal Jordan by Geoff Johns My rating: 3 of 5 stars Rocket Red: "Everyone knows you are guilty. " Hal Jordan: "What else is new?" This one was short and I didn't love the Amon Sur storyline. By the end, I understood why we needed it, but it wasn't my favorite. We dive into a little more OA/Star Sapphire history and that was pretty awesome. However, the triangle that led to was not fun to watch. Especially when you learn the position Hal's in by the end of the story. Aside from the clear Hal Jordan moments, my favorite cameos were Batman (all showing off his willpower and whatnot) and John Stewart being quintessentially himself. This is the first collection that's felt a little 'eh,' to me, but it was by no means bad. I loved Daniel Acuna's art contribution. View all my reviews

Book Review: Green Lantern: Revenge of the Green Lanterns

Image
Green Lantern: Revenge of the Green Lanterns by Geoff Johns My rating: 4 of 5 stars ....OR "Hal teams up with Ollie a bit and then bucks the system." "I suppose he was seeking out your assistance." "K-k-kill Him. I will KILL Hal Jordan!" "Or NOT." The first half of this book features Mongul, Black Mercy, a strained and short-lived Batman teamup (that was fun to read) , and a really awesome appearance by the Tattooed Man. THEN, we skip forward to a year later, post-Infinite Crisis. The tone changes a bit, but it's still beautiful and easy to get into. This part features Rocket Reds, Igneous Man, a shady group called the Global Guardians, hints at the future Sinestro Corps, and then the best storyline...starting with Tomar Tu. So, you know, amazing. View all my reviews

Book Review: Green Lantern Vol. 1: No Fear

Image
Green Lantern Vol. 1: No Fear by Geoff Johns My rating: 4 of 5 stars "The plane engine goes dead." "Warning. Power levels at 0.0%..." "The ring follows." "Believe it or not...I still got a plan." This book heavily focuses on Hal Jordan and his past as well as the reprecussions of the last book. We meet the pilot, Cowgirl, Hal tries getting back into the Air Force and Kilowog tries rebuilding the Green Lantern Corps. We also get some awesome villains such as the Manhunters, Black Hand (again), King Shark (!!!) and a very moonstruck Hector Hammond. I enjoyed learning that the German language is actually Krolotean, and that the other new Lanterns are surprised that Hal Jordan is smart enough to speak since he's from Earth and all. Yep, I'm quickly becoming a fan of this whole world. It really doesn't hurt when there are stories illustrated by Darwyn Cooke and Simone Bianchi. View all my reviews

Book Review: Green Lantern: Rebirth

Image
Green Lantern: Rebirth by Geoff Johns My rating: 5 of 5 stars "Forcing your willpower into the ring . Asking it to give your thoughts... life ...Is that what it's like ?" " Every time." "Damn." WOW. That was such a space adventure!! This is the volume that kicks off Geoff Johns iconic run which brought the Lantern Corps mythos back to its glory. When we enter the story, Hal Jordan is seen as a criminal and a terrible person not worthy of any kind of forgiveness. Between the writing and the amazing artwork, it weaves a tale of a hero that is struggling for redemption while also asking you to notice these other heroes that feel like they're being brought back to life as well. Every time something goes their way, it actually feels like a victory and it's such a hopeful story. I'm on to the next one and I'm so excited to find out what comes next! View all my reviews
