Movie Review: Source Code (2011)

Did you watch Edge of Tomorrow (2014) with Tom Cruise?  It has that feeling as, when you're plunged into the first scene, you know there's some crazy 'do-this-over' sci-fi shit going down.  It's about this man who is (purposely) re-living the last 8 minutes before a train was blown up over and over until he can discover who is responsible for said bomb.

In Source Code, there's an underlying dread and when you meet the people who are behind this project, that feeling only grows.  Basically, it's got the tone of any good sci-fi flick.  You want this guy to find the bomb/bomber because it seems like he's actually a good guy.  Military, asks intelligent questions, willing to put himself in harm's way.  And he wants to succeed.  So you do, too.

The actors were fantastic.  Gyllenhaal, why don't you do manly stubble all the time?!  It worked...just sayin'.  He was captivating as a desperate patriot.  Michelle Monaghan was lovely and never got old, even though her part was mostly the same.  Vera Farmiga was both charming and sinister, which might kind of be her shtick, now that I think about it...

Now, there is one thing.  About halfway through, I found myself wondering about a separate mystery going on in the movie (you'll see!) and I kind of figured it out.  The reason this was okay was that it turned out not to be the only mystery.  A.K.A: I wasn't disappointed.

MEMORABLE SCENE:
The slow-mo explosion scene.  It's all memorable and whatnot.

QUOTE:
Goodwin: "Look for one who seems quiet or withdrawn. Who seems nervous. As always, you have eight minutes."
Colter Stevens: "Eight minutes and then I blow up again?"
Goodwin: "Yes.  I need you to discipline yourself on this next pass.  Perform only the task that we assign you. Everything else is irrelevant."

RATING:
This was solid Science Fiction.  I have always loved stuff like this.  This will get an 8/10 from me.
