Terrifying Tales by Edgar Allan Poe My rating: 4 of 5 stars "I felt that I breathed an atmosphere of sorrow. An air of stern, deep, and irredeemable gloom hung over and pervaded all." Worth reading if only to discuss with others who have read some Poe. As expected, haunting and stays with you long after. For my own future reference: The Tell-Tale Heart -This was shorter than I remembered, but just as impactful. One of my favorite shorts, to be sure. The Cask of Amontillado -Again, shorter than expected, but no less brilliant. Dark and creepy. I really want to know what was said to offend the narrator! The Masque of the Red Death -I didn't remember this one at all and the visual descriptions were absolutely stunning to my mind. I want to see an excellent adaptation of this. The Fall of the House of Usher -This was a bit drawn-out for my taste, but it was a great dissection of madness. You really feel what the narrator is feeling if you can keep up with the prose. Did you grow up watching Elvira's Movie Macabre  (1981)?  The "re-vamp" done in 2010 ( Movie Macabre )?  What about that horror-comedy she was in: Mistress of the Dark ?  You either know exactly who I'm talking about or you're in a generation deprived of this type of tv gimmick.  It made watching really bad horror movies fun, though.   If you love film like I do, it's one of the things you need: to see past all of the mediocre special effects and enjoy the story-even if you're just laughing the whole time.  Elvira went out of her way to make it a fun experience and those who can appreciate that love her for it.  So, enjoy these fan depictions of the ultimate gothic valley girl. Fairy tales, literary nonsense, tall tales...whatever you want to call them.  I'm a sucker for a wonderfully told, beautifully presented one.  Especially when they come in live-action form.  There's something... magical  when it's done right.  Some of these are taken right from the pages of a book, some are new takes on old tales.  If you get surprised by a title, stop and think about it for a second.  It'll make sense. :)  This time, let's see what kind of Beasts we've got.
