Movie Review: Con Air (1997)
For years I had to reply "Yeah...still no," after people said "Dude, you haven't seen Con Air?!" So I finally sat down and watched that sucker and you know what? It was freaking exciting as hell! If you haven't seen this near-perfect action flick, now is the time.
Character-driven right down to the prison nicknames such as Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom (pictured right), this film takes a bunch of criminals and throws them on a plane together. Obviously, death and shenanigans are about to ensue.
The compelling part of the story comes from Nic Cage's lusciously-locked character (below) who may not be innocent, but he damn sure is a good man with a good heart and don't we all just want to see him win the day?
Throw in a couple more surprises like a cross-dresser who just wants to party in the air, secret identities and John Cusack yelling into a phone a lot, and you've got gold, folks!
MEMORABLE SCENE:
Had to be when Steve Buscemi's character Garland 'The Marietta Mangler' Greene, gets off the plane and proceeds to have a random tea party with a little girl.
QUOTE:
Garland Green: "Define Irony: Bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash."
RATING:
What's a good way to rate movies, anyhow? How they made you feel? Whether or not they surprised you? Like most days, I'm gonna wing it and give this an 8.5 out of 10. It's that close to being perfect.
